Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was known all around the world after he succeded his mission. He was born on October 2, 1869. The British people loved India's treasures such as cotton ,salt, etc. Indians agreed with queen Victoria to establish British trading routes. Soon, Britian had taken control of India! After that, they made sevral laws that stated Indians would not be allowed to gather their own salt nor their cotton. They could only export the cotton to Britain so they could sell it to the Indians. Indians soon adopted British traditions. Others lived in poverty. The people of India grew angry.Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi solved this problem without hurting any one . He encouraged all the Indians to spin their own cotton. They did and then got arrested. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi told everyone to not fight back and they didn't. He also leaded several walks without violence . After many years , the Indians finally gained their rights and the British were forced out peacefully. Although, some Indians were angry with Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. A angry Hindu assassinated Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi while praying on 30 January 1948 (aged 78)New Delhi, Union of India .

Harvard University
Over the years ,Harvard has been looked at as an elite college . Why you may ask, well because it is. Harvard has several separate schools such as schools of business ,law, etc. Harvard owns over 4,947 acres of land. On September 8, 1636, John Harvard established the first college in America , Harvard. About 1,900 faculty members attend each day. Harvard's motto is "veritas "which is Latin for "truth" . Its library holds over 16 million volumes . The current tuition is $32,557 not including board and student service fees. The 2007 financial income of Harvard is $3,210,506,00 . Harvard college currently has 6,700 students. If you ever meet an alumni from Harvard ,remember how hard they have worked to meet their goal. If you have ever went to college, you probably remember staying up late every night working on your studies. They had to work quadruple times that. So great job Harvard alumni and other alumni out there!

Cooling Off with Drawings
Sometimes when I come home, I feel depressed , angry, and very lonely. It is hard being in Middle School . Every student is deciding what path to take ,where to go. They can't think, so they just are mean to everybody . Those bullies out their are just scared little people. It just makes them feel good when they bully. Yesterday, there was this kid that would not stop picking on me. I then said, " I WILL fight you ANY day and time you want!", he then turned completely pail and walked away. At the beginning of the school year I sat near this bully, he kept picking on me every class period. I finally elbowed him in the arm, he NEVER messed with me again. Now ,he respects me. But, every body in the school is still mean . I still come home depressed because I have no one to hang with. So then, I place my feelings in paper. I work on a drawing for hours at the time. On the left, you see a drawing I drew yesterday. It asks you which path you want to take. Do you want to be a servant of God, be loyal and be kind? Or, tease and bully everyone ? The stars symbolize the servants and the demons symbolize those who take the wrong path . I now have found the way to overcome depression, prayer, and drawing. Try this, see how it works for you. Yesterday I prayed ,asking God if he would send his angels to keep all the bullies away and let in kindness. Well, I went to school and NO one teased me that day. Even girls started talking to me. I know understand that prayer works .I have faith in God. I will follow him forever and ever more . God will stand with me when I get bullied, when I draw, when I am depressed. He will be with me always.

"How the use of technology has positively and negatively affected today's youth?" S.S. Project
Technology is a necessity in today’s generation. The actual
word “technology” comes from the Greek word “technologia”, which means “craft”.
Computers, ipods, game systems, and television would be some examples of technology.
However, the definition "technology" can refer to material objects of use to humanity
such as machines, hardware, or utensils. The most common type of technology used
by today’s youth would be a television set, game system, cell phone, computer, or an
iPod. These examples of technology affect today’s youth in several ways.
IPods are very popular in today’s youth world. IPods are small
hand-held devices that play music. Some people use them to increase motivation and
self esteem. Music from the iPod can refresh you and give you the confidence you need.
Most of today’s youth likes listening to their iPod after school. Music from an iPod has
also been proved to help kids work faster on their homework. IPods have greatly affected
today’s youth by making them cheerful and entertaining them. When kids need someone
to talk to, they go on the “chat rooms”. Chat rooms are online places where you can send
instant messages to a friend or stranger. You may learn the person’s nickname and what
their favorite hobbies are. There is a friend list also. A friend list is people you can chat
with at a given time. Teens love to visit the chat rooms and talk to people about their
day, feelings, etc. Chatting with their friend cheers them up. Sometimes chat rooms can
be dangerous by predators.
Predators can affect teens horribly. They can mess them up for
life. Predators hang out on websites such as MySpace, chat rooms, etc. In late 2007,
NBC created a program called “To Catch a Predator”. NBC’s “To Catch a Predator” is a
reality television show that features a series of hidden camera investigations devoted to
those who contact teens over the internet for inappropriate contact. Hansen (the host)
attempts to interview each one about their intentions. Some exit the home immediately
when they see Hansen, because they recognize the show, or they have seen him in
previous investigations. Hansen, without identifying himself, interviews the predators
about their intentions. After a few minutes of questioning, Hansen identifies himself as a
Dateline NBC correspondent and informs the predator that the entire interview has been
recorded on hidden camera as part of NBC‘s “How to Catch a predator“. Then, crew
members with cameras reveal themselves and the predator is taken into custody.
MySpace is a hotspot for predators. It is a website offering an interactive network of
friends, personal profiles, blogs, photos, music and videos for teenagers and adults
internationally. “A 22-year-old male in San Francisco comes off as a typical college
student on MySpace, professing a love beat poetry, nature and obscure coffee house
bands. His profile didn’t mention that he is a convicted child molester” (Rob Stafford,
MSNBS Date Line, 4/5/06).
A video game is a system that involves interactions to
generate a visual feedback. Video games affect today’s youth in positive and negative
ways. Video game playing introduces children to computer technology. Many games
provide practice in problem solving. Games also can provide occasions for parent and
child to play with each other. Some games can provide therapeutic applications with
parents and children. You have to remember that games are also entertaining and fun!
Studies find a relationship between violent video games and several teens .Practicing
violent acts may contribute aggressive behavior to the normal behavior of teens. Game
environments are often based on plots of violence and aggression. Many games only
offer enjoyment with weapons, killings, kicking, stabbing, and shooting. Most of the time
when the child finishes the game he or her was playing; the child gets confused with
reality and fantasy. Most of the time there is a “victor “or “champion” of the game,
sometimes if the child does not become the victor or champion, it creates tension in the
child. That can cause numerous reactions such as a temper .Video game systems are
usually played on a television set.
A television (or TV) telecommunication medium for sending
images. The images are usually played in color. In its previous production years, the
images were played in black and white. They were commercially available since the late
1930s. The television has evolved since it was invented. Now they are closed-circuit,
high Definition and digital televisions. Today, television has become a part of teen’s life
style. The TV has affected them positively in many ways. Television helps teens learn
about people’s culture. It also gives family members of all ages an opportunity to spend
time with each other while watching it. Parents can use the TV to get kids to read books
on the same subject. If a storm is coming or cold weather is about, it alerts people about
it by the news channel on the TV. That could save people’s lives. There are also some
negative effects that come along with the television. Some kids get addicted to the
television. If you watch it too long; it can distract you from doing your homework or
going to bed for school. It also hurts your eyes and can cause eye problems. You always
need to spend time playing outside and getting some fresh air with your friends. TV will
brain wash you if you stay on it too long. Just like the video games the TV will contribute
aggressive behavior to your normal behavior. Doctors recommend a certain time that you
stay on the TV. Some say if you watch it for more than 2 hours, a head ache will develop.
Technology is used almost every were you look. IPods to TVs are still
a daily doses for today’s developing teens. Just take a look around right know, do you
see any teens using technology? Technology will also still continue to affect teen’s live in
positive and negative ways.

Ideals on the Gettysburg Address
Abraham Lincoln was tying to tell us several things in the Gettysburg Address. He was trying to introduce a new birth of freedom and he was tying to tell us all men are created equal. He described his vision for “a new birth of freedom". Lincoln's speech puts the Civil War in perspective as a test of the success of the great American Revolution. When Lincoln was purchasing the land, he was saying in his speech” But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate—we can not consecrate—we can not hallow—this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract“ (Abraham Lincoln, Nov. 19,1863, Gettysburg Address) . He was mentioning that this land is not a dedication or burial ground , but land that has already been declared by those brave men in the battle that are living and are dead. He also mentioned” We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live“ (Abraham Lincoln Nov. 19 1863, Gettysburg Address). He means the spirits of the deceased march upon those grounds even today.
The ideals presented in the Gettysburg Address pertain to the people in the past ,present ,and future. Lincoln said “Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal”(Abraham Lincoln, Nov. 19, 1863, Gettysburg Address). Through out history, racism has been practiced in many ways . In the 1960s , their was conflict between some whites and African Americans. Until the late 1700s ,African Americans were brought through slave trade. In Lincoln’s speech, he was against that. When our fathers brought forth on this new continent , we were dedicated to the propisition that all men are created equal. In the civil war , we fought for freedom. Today , we live freely through out the country .
Sevral people today do not know how the Gettysburg Address affected people in that time. It later made those people in that time realize what those valiant men did for our war-torn nation of 1863. The Gettysburg Address was not considered a great success at the moment it was heard. Some eye-witness reports say there was little applause. However , every body in the United States of America today has at least heard of it before. Some of the drafts are currently held at the Gettysburg Address exhibit at the Library of Congress in Washington ,D.C. The Gettysburg Address will always be a reminder of several things. It is a reminder of what those courageous men did in that battle , a reminder of freedom, honor, and much more.

The Chilly Breeze by John Michael Bowling
It was a colorless day. The sky was ashy . I was taking a long walk . I saw an
old ,rotted house . I soon remembered when people were talking about it at school. Most
people say a gloomy , little girl and her abusive father lived there moons ago. In fact, they
did. The house was surrounded by ugly trees and bushes . I was strangely curious . It was
like that horrible, terrifying house was sucking me in. It was such an eerie feeling rushing
through my vanes . So then, I stared at the house and slowly walked inside. When I came
to the door of the house, I had a bitter, foul taste in my mouth. ‘This doesn’t feel right”, I
said quietly inside my head. But then ,I reached towards the ashen door knob anyways .
When I came close ,it fell off! I was frightened . I almost turned back, but I didn’t .I
pulled the cold ,rotted wood and gazed at the empty ,dusty hallway. The hallway
included the grimy staircase on the right of me . I walked deeper into the ugly, terrifying
house and heard the floor crackle as I walked slowly . I then approached the grimy
staircase . I heard a piercing screech upstairs . Then I was stuttering . I continued to
climb up those revolting stairs. Then, there I saw a small room out of the corner of my
eye. So curious, I slowly drew near the room. The eerie room had washed out, acidic pink
paint on its walls. I took a leaping step inside the room. Then, a closet beside me. It
looked like it was holding several lost spirits behind its doors. Then it was opened! I felt
an unusual chilly breeze . That breeze circulated all through my nervous body. What I
saw in that closet , would have blew your mind. Now I know what happened to that
gloomy, lonely little girl. Now I know how cruel that father really was. But, I shouldn’t
say he was a father in this case. The End

History of Discus Throwing
The Olympic event of discus throwing goes back to
was made of stone, iron, bronze, or lead. It weighed
was anywhere from 17 to 32 centimeters in
was not expected to throw the same as the men’s.
rhythm of an athlete throwing the discus is as
describes a young man's physical beauty ( www.perseus.tufts.edu) : "a body capable of
enduring all efforts, either of the racecourse or of bodily strength...This is why the
athletes in the pentathlon are most beautiful." (Aristotle , Rhetoric 1361 B. C. ). The
competitor made an attempt to through a farther distance than his or her competitor .
The technique used to throw the discus at the ancient Olympics is almost the same as it is
today. The officials marked a throw with wooden pegs and measured the distance with
rods . This event was played at the Olympics in Olympia in 775 B. C. . The Olympics
was a religious festival honoring the Greek god ,“Zeus“. Today ,discus is played all
around the world at the Olympic games. Famous discus thrower (Tallinn Estonia )said , “
“I think I set an Olympic record for big men” (Tallinn Estonia, Beijing Olympics 2008).
Some say discus is one of the oldest sports in the world. So far in 2008 , Gabriele
Reinsch has thrown the discus the farthest at 76.8 meters in length. In the 1896
Olympics, the men’s discus throw was one of two throwing events. Countries such as
Russia and Germany have shown to be strong in discus throwing. Discus throwing will
continue to be played at the famous Olympic games as it has for centuries before .

Cruelty in Middle School
Middle school is the hardest time of your life. Usually if you don't have friends it's even worst. Most middle schoolers say negative ,mean things to the other person for no reason! What happens is anger and depression gets built up inside. It feels horrible too. People also have different personalities . Some people are super sensitive . If you say you smell bad to one person ,it will ruin their day. If you say it to a nother ,they will probably not mind. When all that anger gets built up, that is when depression and suicidal thoughts come in. People also start rumors and gossip. In my school I have heard rumors and bad comments being made to me and others. I know what it feels like. So if you are one of those bullys, please stop. You have no Idea what it feels like.
Peace,
JMB

Tony and Bob's Toy Truck (My L.A. Assignment)
John Michael
Bowling 2nd period
9/30/2008 L.A.
Alabama ,1957- on a stormy night Mrs. Porter gave birth to 5 children. Among those children were two boys named Tony and Bob. The next day Mr. Porter made his decision that he could not raise five kids with so little money . He divided up his children and sent them to their relatives.
Tony and Bob were sent to their grandmother ,Alice ,in a quiet town in Missouri . Eight years later ,in 1965 ,Tony and Bob were living in their grandmother’s quiet ,small home next to their nice neighbors , Ms. Cagle and Mrs. and Mr. Burger . Mrs. and Mr. Burger are two newlyweds that just moved in , Ms. Cagle is a cheerful woman that loves to cook. One day Tony and Bob were with their grandmother . They were going to buy a little bread at the bakery when they saw it . They saw their love, a shiny ,red toy truck that they fell in love with. There was only one problem ,they could not afford it .Alice stopped and looked . She said , “We can’t afford it honey , unless….. Unless you earn the money!” . The boys were jumping up and down . Tony said ,” It’s only three dollars.”. Alice said ,” Three dollars we can’t afford.”. Tony and Bob looked in the window of the store . They decided they would earn the money by doing
chores. The next day Tony and Bob woke up early and went to Alice . They said,” We’re going to do chores now grandma .”. She replied by saying,” Ok honey.”. They walked together down the small sidewalk deciding where they would go first . Tony and Bob walked up to Ms. Cagle’s house and knocked on the old door . She opened it and she was so glad Tony and Bob had stopped by. She said ,” What would you like sweetie ?”. Tony and Bob were very serious and told her they wanted to do some chores to earn some money . She looked briefly at her ugly fence in her front yard . She said ,” I have a fence that I have been wanting to paint , but never got to it , do you want to try that ?”. They replied by ,” Yes ma’m we will.”. Ms. Cagle gave them two paint brushes with a small paint can . They ran to the fence and Bob looked behind and smiled . They stood up to the tall ugly fence and began painting in slow ,smooth strokes. Tony and Bob soon became hot but they did not stop. They worked on that fence all day, but then the sky darkened before they knew it . Tony and Bob finally stopped. They knocked on the door of Ms. Cagle’s house and Ms. Cagle opened the door . She handed them one dollar each . They headed home so proud of themselves . They showed Alice what they earned. She was also so proud of them . Tony and Bob noticed that her feet were shaking and then they went to bed. The next morning they went and repeated the process again . Instead, they walked up to Mrs. and Mr. Burger’s house . Tony and Bob knocked on the door. Mr. Burger answered and said,” Hey ,how you kids doing today ?”. Tony and Bob skipped to the point . They said ,” Can we do some chores sir ?”. He replied by ,” Sure you can boys ! “. The boys were wondering what . Mr. Burger was looking around the lawn . Then he spotted the flower bed . He said, “ You can plant some flowers , do you want do that ? “. They agreed and took their hands , then they began to dig . They worked for hours planting so many flowers . Then they knocked on the door . Mr. Burger came out so surprised , he said, “ Well ,you have worked very hard boys ,here is your reward . He handed them 50 cents each . They were the happiest they had ever been . They scurried home and going to show Alice. She was already in bed. So they went to bed too exited about getting their toy tomorrow . The next day Alice and the boys woke up early and left the house . While Alice was next door ,the boys went to the toy shop. They stood in front of it looking at the truck . Something popped inside Tony’s head . He said ,” Hey Bob ,remember when grandma’s feet were shaking ?”. Bob replied by ,”Yeah.”. Tony said,” I think it was because she was cold. Why don’t we go buy her some socks ,She is more important than the toy. “. Bob said ,”you’re right, we should.”. They went to the small clothing store across the street . Mr. Smith (the toy store manager) looked at them going over to the clothing store. A tear shed from his eye . Tony and Bob quickly purchased some nice patterned socks and met Alice at home . Tony and Bob slowly approached Alice and presented the socks they purchased for her . Alice was in tears . She looked down at the boys and cried . The boys were smart enough to know that those were beautiful tears of joy. She picked them up and hugged them over and over. But ,something troubled her. She couldn’t get them anything .Alice went to bed with her patterned socks along with the boys . Tony and Bob noticed that her feet weren’t shaking anymore . They were happy and drifted off to sleep.
The next morning they got up and saw their grandma all cheerful with a package. Alice said ,” This is for you boys! “. They rushed toward Alice and ripped open the mysterious package . They saw there love , the red , shiny toy truck . They were so happy and egger to play with it. It also came along with a small note that read : God Bless, Mr. Smith .They paused thinking what a great man he is. Mr. Smith was looking in the window enjoying the laughter of the boys. Then he left with great joy in his heart. THE END

The Nativity Story (Another one of my favorite movies)
The Nativity Story is similar to my other favorite ,Passion of the Christ. It is based on Jesus' birth. The main characters are Keisha Castle-Hughes (Mary) and Oscar Isaac (Joseph). The filming began on May 1, 2006 in Matera ,Italy and Morocco. Mary finds out as a virgin that she is blessed with a child named Jesus . Word goes around that she is pregnant (What will Joseph think?). By order of King Herod, Joseph and Mary make there way to Bethlehem ,the city of David . To view more information about the Nativity Story ,please go to my links and select " The Nativity Story".

A Tribute to a Wonderfull Teacher ,Grace Cohn
My 6th grade teacher was Mrs. Cohn . She prepared me not only for 7th grade, but also for life challenges. She taught me all about the ancient civilizations that I love so much and the traditions of Messianic Judaism (god and Jesus). She also made everything fun. I know realize that I actually really enjoyed waking up every morning and entering her class room with my warm hot chocolate and jacket. That was probably the most best year of my life . Thank You so much Mrs. Cohn.
Your student,
John Michael Bowling
